He disclosed that a delegation from the National Boundary Commission (NBC), Abuja, and Enugu Boundary Commission paid him a courtesy visit recently and that efforts have been put in place to ensure that all boundary issues related to the state are disposed off peacefully.
Okeke, who addressed journalists in Awka, noted that the administration of Chief Willie Obiano will provide every necessary support to ensure amicable resolution of boundary disputes between Anambra and neighbouring states.
He said that with dialogue and spirit of sportsmanship, every issue would be resolved, adding that Enugu and Anambra states are of the same breed hence, there is need to co-exist amicably.
The Deputy Governor assured that all lingering boundary issues between the two states must be resolved amicably.
While hailing the renewed efforts of the NBC and the commitment of the Enugu State government towards resolving the conflict, he promised that the state will do whatever that is necessary to expedite the resolution of the challenge.
Okeke who is the Chairman of the State Boundary Commission further said that the Abuja team was in the state to do ethnographic survey to determine how the boundaries will be delineated.
He commended the commission for the laudable initiatives adopted to resolve boundary challenges across the country.
Furthermore, he described the ethnographic studies where questionnaires are issued to natives of affected communities after which they are analyzed and final resolutions reached as a good development.
Okeke said that the distribution of questionnaires which will last for six days has already commenced in some communities like Awba Ofemmili and Ugbeene, both in Anambra State, while Enugu State will commence theirs next week.
He urged people to imbibe the culture of living in peace with each other in order to create an enabling environment for good developmental strides saying that the exercise is also aimed at ensuring that in the determination of boundary matters, affected communities will not be erroneously classified in states where they do not originally belong.
