Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Thursday announced that a 50 million litres per day Zaria regional water supply scheme will be commissioned May 27.
Speaking shortly after inspection of the N69 billion regional water project sites as part of activities marking the World Water Day in Zaria, the Governor expressed satisfaction over the level of progress of work at the site.
“Lack of access to portable water supply in Zaria and environs will soon be a thing of the past.
“The people of Zaria will begin to see significant improvement in the area of water supply while other neighbouring Local Government Areas will follow shortly after.
“The Governor noted that the project will be completed within the N69 billion budget earmarked,” he added.
He said work in all the components of the water project that include the reservoirs, the transmission pipelines are in progress.
“We had initial hiccups but everything is on course. We are very happy.
“By the grace of God by the27thof May, 2017two days before we celebrate our mid-term, we are coming to commission the 50 million litres per day plant.
“So we have fixed the day for the commissioning of the project and the people of Zariawill begin to seesignificant improvement in water supply.
“Other Local Government Areas will follow shortly after that but by April 2018 everything will be completed.
“The service reservoirs all the places would have been completed. We met with the contractors and other consultants have achieved near completion.
“This project, we are confident, we will complete the project within the budget and largely on time,” the Governor assured.
