‎The Nigeria Senate has asked its Committee on Ethics and Privileges to investigate series of allegations levelled against President of the Senate Bukola Saraki and Senator Dino Melaye which have drawn criticisms against the Senate across the social media.

Unsubstantiated online media reports had alleged that the Senate is having a running battle with Customs Comptroller-General Hameed Ali because the Service had allegedly seized a bullet-proof SUV belonging to the Senate President.

Senator Dino Melaye, on the other hand, had the authenticity of his educational qualification questioned by another online report which also accused him of not successfully graduating from the university, an allegation which has caused a meltdown on the social media space.

Former Senate Leader Ali Ndume, who intervened via a point of order bordering on privileges at Tuesday’s plenary, informed the Senate that the allegations have ruined the reputation of the hallowed chamber.

He advised the upper chamber to investigate the allegations.

The committee on Ethics and privileges has been given four weeks to report back to the Senate.‎
