Governor El-Rufai
The Kaduna State House of Assembly (KDHA) has reacted to the purported plan by it to impeach Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
Nuhu Matthew, Chairman, House Committee on Information, while raising matters of urgent public importance during the House sitting on Wednesday in Kaduna, said the position of the House is that the story being circulated in the social media in “its entirely is false, malicious and fabricated lies with clear intent to cause disaffection between the Hon House, its members, the Governor and the general public.
“We wish to accordingly dissociate ourselves with it in all its ramifications and call on good thinking citizens of Kaduna State to do the same,” he said.
He described the message allegedly by some members of the House who met over the weekend on the possible impeachment of the governor over what is termed as “impeachable offences” as containing “lots of fabricated lies.”
Hon. Nuhu Matthew called on citizens of the state to continue with their normal activities without any hitch.
Reports circulating on social media had claimed “credible intelligence report” that some members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly met over the weekend on the possible impeachment of Governor El-Rufai. They accused the Governor of plotting to take over presidential powers of Muhamamdu Buhari during his medical vacation in London, as well as his absence and refusal to organise or attend any prayer session for Buhari while he was away. Other accusations to be used to justify impeachment include:
1. Diverting Kaduna State funds to revive the moribund telecom firm of his brother Intercellular with the sum of $100 million.
2. Indiscriminate award of contracts to mistresses, cronies and family members without due process worth over 16 billion naira.
3. Calculated plans to dispossess Kaduna State Government-owned properties and sell them to Abuja and Lagos based companies in which the Governor has controlling shares through a third party.
4. Embezzlement of Paris refund money and diversion of bailout funds worth over 30 billion naira.
5. Disrespect for traditional institution and refusal to pay them salaries since assumption to office.
6. Diversion and mismanagement of local government funds and refusal to pay teachers salaries and illegal deductions.
7. Insulting both Muslim and Christian religious leaders.
8. Persecution of Kaduna State civil servants and destruction of the civil service.
9. Incompetence in handling the killings in Southern Kaduna.
10. Sale of Kaduna state liaison office in Lagos to a close friend.
The members accused the Governor of divide and rule in the house by given N5 million each to seven members of the House including the Speaker monthly.
