Those expecting to see Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, take to politics when leaves office next year at the expiration of his five-year tenure would be disappointed as he has no such ambition.
Speaking yesterday on life after office, Sanusi has told BBC’s HARDtalk that he would not be entering politics when he ends his term as governor of the CBN.
“Being a good central banker does not make you a good politician,” he said, adding he had seen enough successful people enter politics only to “destroy everything they have built.”
Asked if he could persuaded to change his mind, Sanusi said: “I have been in Abuja long enough to know that I cannot survive for one year in that space.”
News Express had in a September 30 story entitled “I’LL RETIRE AS A TEACHER —Sanusi” reported that the CBN Governor would devote his time to teaching at the end of his tenure.
