NDYFGG National President, Comr Lucky O O Ukueku
The National President of the Niger Delta Youth for Good Governance (NDYFGG), Comr. Lucky O. O. Ukueku, has commiserated with the family of the former Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, over his demise.
Ukueku, in a condolence message personally signed and issued to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, described the death of the former Governor as painful and a great loss to Delta State and the entire Niger Delta region.
According to him, “Ordinarily, I ought not to say anything, but the Bible admonishes us to rejoice with those who rejoice and mourn with those who mourn.”
He recalled that there was a time rumours of the former Governor’s death were falsely circulated online, which was later debunked by his daughter.
“I felt bad that someone could spread such false news about a man who was still alive. That was why I found it difficult to believe this recent news, until I saw in the media that the Executive Governor of Delta State paid a condolence visit to the family,” he stated.
The youth leader described the late Uduaghan as a calm man, full of understanding and a promise-keeper, whose legacies and contributions to the development of Delta State remain indelible.
He noted that death is not negotiable and no one can question God, for He gives and takes, adding that the passing of great men should be a lesson to all, especially those in politics, that all is vanity.
“As human beings, everyone has his own time, but what matters is the impact and legacy left behind. The passing of great men like former Presidents, Governors, Senators, Ministers and Ambassadors should remind us that leadership is transient,” he said.
Ukueku used the opportunity to call for sober reflection among the political class.
“It is a time for us to reflect. In civilized climes, you rarely see leaders and their families flaunting wealth and luxury cars, because the system encourages modesty, accountability and service to the people. Public office should be seen as a call to service, not an avenue for primitive accumulation of wealth,” he added.
He emphasized that leaders must respect the citizens they serve and focus on good governance and sustainable development for the next generation.
On behalf of himself, his immediate family, the leadership and the entire members of the NDYFGG, Ukueku extended his heartfelt condolences to the entire Uduaghan family and prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the late statesman.
