Members of the National Youth Service Corps
The Federal Government has intensified its anti-corruption campaign by taking the Whistleblowing Policy sensitisation programme to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps across the nation’s six geopolitical zones.
It is to promote transparency, accountability and responsible reporting of financial misconduct.
The nationwide exercise, organised by the Presidential Initiative on Continuous Audit (PICA) under the Federal Ministry of Finance, targeted Corps members participating in the 2026 NYSC batch.
The programme is aimed at equipping young Nigerians with the knowledge to identify and report suspected financial irregularities through appropriate channels while discouraging unsupported allegations and irresponsible disclosures. NigerianCulture Magazine
Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Federal Ministry of Finance, Alhaji Mohammed Danjuma Sanusi, reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to strengthening the implementation of the Whistleblowing Policy and promoting a culture of integrity among Nigerians.
Sanusi said public enlightenment was critical to ensuring that citizens understood the objectives of the policy and their role in protecting public resources.
He noted that educating corps members on responsible reporting would help prepare them to uphold ethical standards as they begin their professional careers and assume responsibilities in both the public and private sectors.
According to him, the fight against corruption requires not only effective institutional mechanisms but also informed citizens who understand how to identify suspected wrongdoing and report it through recognised channels.
He also emphasised the need for sustained public awareness, effective communication and collaboration among relevant institutions to achieve the objectives of the policy.
PICA Steps Up Whistleblowing Awareness
The Director of PICA, Seldam Ibrahim Dangin, said the initiative formed part of efforts to strengthen public financial management and promote accountability in government expenditure.
Through the sensitisation sessions, Corps members were introduced to the principles and objectives of the Whistleblowing Policy, including its relevance to exposing suspected financial misconduct, fraud and mismanagement of public funds.
The sessions also highlighted the importance of factual reporting, good-faith disclosures and the use of appropriate institutional channels when raising concerns about suspected wrongdoing.
PICA’s mandate includes providing continuous assurance over government expenditure and undertaking functions relating to whistleblowing and the investigation of relevant financial misconduct.
The programme was extended to NYSC orientation camps across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to ensure that corps members received the sensitisation irrespective of their location.
Training Teams Urge Corps Members To Embrace Integrity
The Head of Training and teams deployed across the country urged corps members to take the programme seriously, participate actively in the sessions and familiarise themselves with the procedures for reporting suspected financial misconduct.
They said the knowledge acquired would help participants become more informed citizens, responsible professionals and advocates of ethical conduct in their workplaces and communities.
The training teams also stressed that reports of suspected wrongdoing should be factual and made in good faith through recognised channels to protect the integrity of the whistleblowing process.
They encouraged corps members to apply the lessons in their daily lives and support efforts to promote transparent management of public resources.
Consultant Commends Finance Ministry, NYSC
The Lead Consultant for the programme expressed appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Finance, PICA and NYSC management for their support and cooperation in facilitating the nationwide exercise.
He also commended the training teams and facilitators deployed across the states and the FCT for their coordination and commitment to delivering the sensitisation sessions.
According to him, the initiative provided an opportunity to contribute to national development by improving young Nigerians’ understanding of transparency, accountability and responsible citizenship.
He pledged the consulting team’s continued commitment to professional service delivery, stakeholder engagement and the promotion of the core principles of the Whistleblowing Policy.
The programme underscores the Federal Government’s efforts to broaden public understanding of anti-corruption measures by engaging young Nigerians at the beginning of their national service.
Through the collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Finance, PICA, NYSC and the programme’s training partners, the initiative seeks to encourage responsible reporting and strengthen awareness of the need to protect public resources.
As Corps members proceed with their national service, they are expected to apply the lessons acquired in their workplaces and communities, contributing to efforts to promote integrity, accountability and good governance across. (The Nation)
