"Nyako a curse on Adamawa people": Group demands apology from Obasanjo for imposing him as governor

The Save Adamawa State Movement (SASM) has demanded for an unreserved apology from former President Olusegun Obasanjo for the imposition of Murtala Nyako as governor ofthe state, as a result of the insult he allegedly received from his erstwhile deputy, AlhajiAtiku Abubakar.

SASM in a statement issued by its National Co-ordinator, Engineer Albert Stephen, described the Nyako administration as a curse on the people of Adamawa State. The group declared that Obasanjo grievously wronged the people of the state by forcing on them Nyako, whom SASM said is well known forhis lack of capacity to deliverduring his military career.

“It was his failure to perform that made obasanjo remove him as Military Administrator of Niger State. General Ibrahim Babangidaalso removed him as Chief of Naval Staff. In fact,Babangida had to create the office of deputy chief of defence staffto enable him ease out Nyako, who was allegedly running down the navy.As a civilian governor, his recordis nothing to write home about,” SASM said.

The group urged Obasanjo to as a matter of urgency and utmost necessity tender a public apology to the people of Adamawa State.

It noted that that “already, his co-traveler, Prof. Jibril Aminu, who waspart ofthe conspiracy against the people of Adamawa, has since apologised for the misdemeanor and crime against humanity.”

According to the SASM, “Former President Obasanjo has a history of never forgiving anybody that offends him. Like an elephant he never forgets. He fooled the North into believing he loves them. But, as they say, a leopard does not change its spots. In 2007 he imposed a sick Umaru Yar’Adua as President, knowing fully well that he would not last the distance. The implication of this is that the North has been and will most likely be out of power for more than 30 years. This is the punishment for the North for his (Obasanjo)’stravails in the hands of General Sani Abacha.”

SASM accused Obasanjo of imposing Nyako on the peopleof Adamawa State due to thealleged “insults” he received from Alhaji Atiku Abubakar during his days as Vice President under Obasanjo. ObasanjoreportedlybeggedAtiku for his support in the 2003 elections.

SASM also noted that former President Obsanjo as military Head of State removed Nyako for gross incompetence, adding that in military circles Nyako is known for incompetence.

“The question then,” according to the group, “is, what did Obasanjo see differently in a man he described as a failure in 1977, that in 2007 he had to impose him on Adamawa State? The answer is simple – it wasfor the sins of our son, Atiku Abubakar.”

SASM described the imposition of Nyakoas the Obasanjo backward agenda for Adamawa State, stressing that “sadly, Governor Nyako is more than fulfilling the mandate: Of the 31,0000 students that sat for WAEC in 2012,only 1,000 passed. Civil servants’ salary is paid at the pleasure of the governor due to poor economic management. Roads are in a terrible state.”

“We call on former President Obasanjoto toe the path of honour and apologise or the blood of all those who have died because of lack of drugs in hospitals and medical personnel, those involved in accidents because of bad roads among other vices in the state would be on his hands,” SASM stated.
