Pensioners of the New Nigerian Newspapers (NNN) have won their case instituted against the Federal Government of Nigeria and NNN Limited over the non-payment of 130 months pension and gratuity.
The Federal High Court 2 Kaduna presided over by Justice Evelyn Anytime yesterday granted virtually all the reliefs sought by the pensioners.
The court ruled that the plaintiffs are entitled to payment of their monthly pension including the accumulated pension arrears of 100 months.
Justice Anytime also ruled that the plaintiffs should be paid all their current and accrued pension arrears together with all increments thereof by the defendants.
The plaintiffs, she further ruled, should in addition be paid their outstanding balance of gratuity by the defendants.
Reacting to the verdict, Chairman of the NNN Pensioners Association, Mallam Idih Sule, thanked all that made the victory possible for the pensioners especially Messrs A. B. Iweka and Co; Chief Ekhasemomhe and Co, the media and other well meaning Nigerians.
The chairman also thanked the pensioners for their patience and asked God to grant external repose for the souls of all the pensioners who died due to the hardship occasioned by the non-payment of their benefits.
