Gov. Alex Otti of Abia has expressed sadness over the death of Sqn. Ldr. Ahamefule Man-Ugwueje, who died in a plane crash on Monday.
Man-Ugwueje was one of the pilots of the Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft, NAF 931, which crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State.
Otti’s reaction is contained in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma, on Tuesday.
The governor described the deaths of Man-Ugwueje and other military personnel aboard the aircraft as painful and devastating.
“This accident is both painful and devastating.
“It has brought untold sorrow and anguish to the victims’ families, their friends and loved ones, the Nigerian Air Force, and the nation at large,” Otti said.
He lamented that Man-Ugwueje died in the air disaster barely two weeks after he married his wife, Flt. Lt. Damilola Adekunle, in Abuja.
He said the crash had robbed the couple of the opportunity to build a life together as husband and wife.
The governor, on behalf of his family, the Abia Government and the people of the state, expressed his deepest condolences to the victims’ families.
He also commiserated with the people of Umuahia, where Man-Ugwueje hailed from, as well as the Nigerian Air Force and the Federal Government.
Otti prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the crash victims in God’s bosom. (NAN)
