Kano State Gov Abba Yusuf
By ZUBAIRU IDRIS
The Kano State Government has approved the promotion of 18,984 teaching and non-teaching staff of the state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
The government also approved the release of N235.1 million for the implementation of the promotions.
This is contained in a statement by the Director-General on Media and Publicity to Gov. Abba Yusuf, Mr Sanusi Bature, on Monday in Kano.
Bature said that the approval followed a request by the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Alhaji Yusuf Kabir, seeking the release of N235.1 million for the implementation of the promotions across the 44 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs).
He quoted the SUBEB board chairman as saying that the affected staff comprised of eligible teaching and non-teaching personnel whose promotions for the January and July 2026 cycles had been processed, including the corresponding salary adjustment calculations.
Kabir noted that timely implementation of promotions was essential to staff motivation, career development, capacity strengthening and improved service delivery within the basic education sector.
He also said that the board was one of the largest public institutions in the state with approximately 60,000 teaching and non-teaching personnel serving across the 44 LGEAs.
He further said that his present administration in the state inherited outstanding promotion backlogs, including arrears spanning seven years and another backlog of one-and-a-half years.
“However, this administration approved and ensured the implementation of the outstanding promotions.
“The intervention significantly boosted staff morale, restored confidence in the service and demonstrated the state government commitment to the welfare of public servants.
“The board has completed all necessary arrangements and processes for the January and July 2026 promotions, including staff eligibility verification and salary adjustment computations,” he said. (NAN)
