NSCIA President-General, Sultan Saad Abubakar
The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) under the leadership of its President-General, Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has restructured and expanded its National Executive Council (NEC).
The decision was reached at the General Assembly of the council held in Abuja on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
The expansion followed the participation of Muslim leaders, including traditional Islamic leaders and Chief Imams of Central Mosques across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Under the new structure, Prof. Mahfouz Adedimeji was appointed Deputy Secretary-General (National), while Prof. Salisu Shehu emerged as Deputy Secretary-General (International).
Mr Abeny Mohammed (SAN) was appointed Deputy Secretary-General (Corporate), with Dr Bala Muhammad taking the position of Deputy Secretary-General (Administration).
The council also appointed Dr Umar Jibrilu Gwandu as Public Relations Officer (PRO) and Hajia Sekinat Lawal as Deputy Public Relations Officer (DPRO).
Others are Dr Mairo Mandara, Development Officer; Arc Abdullahi Musa PenAbdul, Deputy Development Officer (Technical); and Prof. Fatimah Abdulkarim, Family Affairs Officer.
The NSCIA said the appointments were approved by the General Assembly as part of the renewal and expansion of the council’s national executive structure.
The statement, dated October 3, 2026, was issued by Abbas Jimoh, Public Affairs Officer, NSCIA.
The council said the restructuring was part of its efforts to strengthen its national executive structure and expand its areas of responsibility. (The Nation)
