Miners at work
Two persons from Heipang District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State have been shot dead at a mining site around Kuru Jenta, near the boundary between Kuru Jenta in Jos South LGA.
The development comes less than a week after three women were killed and one person injured when gunmen attacked a site at Rakum community in Barkin Ladi LGA.
The state government had imposed dust-to-down curfew on Barik Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu to restore order following attacks and killings but the attacks have continued.
The latest incident, according to community sources, occurred at about 11:30pm on Friday when the victims were at the mining site.
A member of the affected community, Weng Bulus, who confirmed the incident lamented that the victims were at the mining site during the period of the curfew imposed by the state government, urging residents to remain vigilant and avoid movements during restricted hours.
She cautioned residents against violating the curfew, particularly by engaging in night mining, saying such movements could expose them to security risks.
Bulus also condemned the attack and called on residents to take necessary precautions in view of the security situation in the area.
Spokesman of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, BYM, Rwang Tengwong, called on security operatives to go after the attackers.
He also cautioned residents, particularly miners, against engaging in night mining and urged them to remain vigilant and comply with security measures put in place by the government.
Spokespersons of the State Police Command , SP Alabo Alfred, didn’t respond to inquiry from our correspondent as of press time. (Weekend Trust)
