Recovered ammunitions
Police in Sokoto State have foiled an attack by bandits on Tsabre Village in Isa Local Government Area of the state, recovering two rocket launchers and other weapons.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’I, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, saying the attack occurred at about 1am, when the bandits opened fire sporadically to create panic among residents.
He said the Divisional Police Officer in Isa immediately mobilised tactical teams, including the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), following a distress call.
According to him, the police operatives engaged the bandits in a gun duel, forcing them to retreat into a nearby forest with casualties.
Rufa’I said the tactical teams later combed the surrounding bushes and recovered two rocket launchers, two empty AK-47 magazines, a keypad Tecno handset without a battery and a torchlight.
Other items recovered were an army jungle hat, a sweater cap, five pairs of sandals and a rain jacket.
The police spokesman said the Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, commended the officers for their swift response and gallantry during the operation.
He said the commissioner had reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property in the state.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities or persons with gunshot wounds seeking medical attention to the nearest police station. (Daily Trust)
