President Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori, Comrade Ukueku
As Nigeria marks 66th Independence Day, the National President of the Niger Delta Youth For Good Governance (NDYFGG), Comr. Lucky O. O. Ukueku, has charged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to prioritize measures that will ease economic hardship and create job opportunities for Nigerians.
Comr. Ukueku, who is the Pioneer National President of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) Scholarship Students Worldwide, stated this during an interview with newsmen in Warri, Delta State, on Wednesday.
According to him, many Nigerians are currently facing economic challenges arising from the high cost of food items, fuel and transportation, coupled with limited job opportunities.
He noted that while the removal of fuel subsidy was intended to reposition the economy, its positive impact is yet to be fully felt by ordinary Nigerians.
"The average Nigerian is still struggling with the high cost of living. We appeal to the Federal Government to ensure that the gains of the subsidy removal and increased federal allocations translate into real relief for the people," he said.
Comr. Ukueku also called on state governments to complement Federal Government efforts by ensuring that allocations are judiciously utilized to improve the welfare of citizens.
He expressed concern over the state of infrastructure in some rural areas of Delta State, including poor road networks, lack of functional health centres, dilapidated school structures and inadequate drainage systems leading to flooding.
He further noted that the private sector has been sustaining many families in the state, stressing the need for government to strengthen youth engagement and human capital development programmes.
"Delta State has enormous potentials and resources. With proper planning and inclusive governance, the state can achieve greater development. Democracy is government of the people, by the people and for the people, and its dividends should be felt by all," he said.
Comr. Ukueku urged the Federal and State Governments to intensify efforts towards job creation, infrastructure development and youth empowerment, to give Nigerians renewed hope.
He congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of Independence Day and called for unity, peace and collective commitment to national development.
