Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has disclosed discussions with the High Commissioner of India to Nigeria, Mr Abhishek Singh, on measures to strengthen air connectivity between Nigeria and India.
Keyamo, in a post on his X handle, said Singh paid him a working visit at his Abuja office, where they discussed areas of mutual interest in the aviation sector.
According to the minister, improving direct air connectivity between the two countries was a key issue discussed during the meeting, set against the backdrop of the cordial relationship between Nigeria and India for several decades.
He said stronger air links between the two countries would create opportunities for deeper engagement and cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Keyamo also disclosed that the meeting explored possible collaboration between Nigeria and India in human capacity development, particularly in the aviation sector.
The minister said both sides also discussed establishing Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities, which are critical to maintaining and servicing aircraft and other aviation equipment.
He noted that the discussions were part of efforts to deepen cooperation between Nigeria and India and to explore practical areas where both countries could leverage their existing relationship for mutual benefit.
Keyamo said the meeting also produced an agreement to engage his counterpart in India for further discussions on the issues raised.
He said a meeting with the Indian aviation authorities would be arranged soon to enable both sides to examine the proposals in greater detail and identify possible areas of collaboration.
The minister expressed optimism that continued engagement between the two countries would help advance cooperation in Nigeria’s aviation sector and strengthen the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and India. (The Nation)
