Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Maiduguri, Mohammed Goni in a post on Nigerian Army’s X handle on October 1, the operations, conducted between September 30 and October 1, 2026, covered the Boima general area of Gombi Local Government Area and other locations within Sector 4 Area of Operations.
In Boima, troops reportedly ambushed a terrorist enclave, neutralising 16 terrorists. A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of three AK-47 rifles, two pump-action rifles, one Dane gun, six AK-47 magazines and a belt of pump-action cartridges.
The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI also carried out a precision air strike on October 1 after an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance platform detected about 16 terrorists gathered with 15 motorcycles under a tree canopy in Sector 4.
According to the military, the target was identified and engaged in a precision strike at about 5:30 a.m., with a subsequent battle damage assessment confirming that the target had been destroyed.
Some surviving terrorists reportedly fled the area.
Meanwhile, troops repelled coordinated attacks on military positions at 226 Battalion in Garkida and 232 Battalion in Garaha.
The attackers were forced to withdraw following the troops’ response.
The military said three soldiers were killed during the fighting, while wounded personnel were evacuated and are receiving medical treatment in stable condition.
Follow-up exploitation and mop-up operations are ongoing across the affected areas.
The Theatre Command said the operations form part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen coordination between land and air components and deny terrorists freedom of action across the North East.
It also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to security agencies as military operations continue. (PUNCH)
