Over 250 residents of Harmony Estate, Oluyole in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State have protested the activities of land grabbers, which they said have rendered them homeless.

The Nation learnt that the development has forced the inhabitants to seek the intervention of Governor Seyi Makinde, Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja and Police Commissioner Olugbenga Abimbola.

The protesters said their appeal became imperative to avert breakdown of law and order and restore peace.

They alleged that over 30 houses and many undeveloped plots had been taken over by the land grabbers.

Speaking with reporters in Ibadan after submitting their petition to the Commissioner of Police at the Command Headquarters, Eleyele, one of the affected property owners, Soni Gold, urged stakeholders to prevail on the suspected land grabbers to desist from taking their property.

He said the land grabbers should approach the court if they had evidence of ownership, instead of resorting to violence, citing a property owner, who went to court and got favourable judgment, but the land grabbers still came back and tried to take over the property but failed.

A resident of the estate and one of the first settlers in the community, Elder Boluwaduro Famiyesi, who noted that he had spent over 30 years in the estate, said the invaders should not take the law into their hands.

He said they should allow the court to resolve the matter.

Also, other residents, Elder Ezekiah Oyedeji and Prince Samuel Adeyemi, said the recent activities of the land grabbers were worrisome and had become a thing of concern to inhabitants.

They appealed to the government and relevant stakeholders to resolve the matter. (The Nation)
