The Zamfara Government has commenced the installation of internet facilities at the Gusau International Airport ahead of its planned Oct. 1 take-off of commercial flight operations.
The Executive Secretary of the Zamfara Information Technology Development Agency (ZITDA) Dr. Habib Gajam, disclosed this during an assessment tour of the airport in Gusau on Monday.
Gajam said ZITDA would provide reliable internet connectivity across key operational areas of the airport.
He said the deployment of internet facilities was part of efforts to ensure effective operations and a passenger-friendly airport.
Gajam said the connectivity would cover the domestic and international departure and arrival terminals, protocol and VIP lounges, control tower, fire station and other critical operational areas.
“Passengers using the airport will also have access to free internet services as part of efforts to provide a more connected travel experience.
“he airport project is part of the Zamfara government’s wider digital infrastructure expansion programme aimed at supporting modern public services and improving connectivity across the state,” he said.
Gajam said the first phase of the programme had already provided internet infrastructure at the Government House, JB Yakubu Secretariat Complex, State House of Assembly Complex, State High Court Complex, Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, College of Nursing Sciences, Gusau, and the Zamfara Internal Revenue Service.
According to him, government is working to ensure that the digital infrastructure required to support airport operations is in place as Zamfara prepares to receive commercial flights beginning Oct. 1.
The ZITDA chief said the initiative aligned with Gov. Dauda Lawal’s vision of making Zamfara a more digitally enabled and connected state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Zamfara Government on Sept. 22 signed an Air Route Development Partnership Agreement with XEJet Limited for scheduled commercial flights between Gusau International Airport and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. (NAN)
