In a daring move, suspected Boko Haram terrorists at the weekend took the war directly to the Nigerian troops hunting them in the troubled Borno State in the country’s North-East.
The attack on a military checkpoint on Bama-Banki highway killed four persons suspected to be security operatives, residents of the area told newsmen.
The gunmen, armed with assorted rifles, Rocket Propelled Grenades and Improvised Explosive Devises, reportedly invaded the military checkpoint at about 11:26 p.m. on Saturday, opening fire overpowering the security agents, killing four of them.
They also set the security post ablaze along with houses, filling stations and shops around the popular Junction before fleeing.
A source who declined identification told reporters the invaders who emerged from a nearby forest had driven to the area in five Hilux vehicles in the assault which lasted for an hour.
There has been no official confirmation of the incident.
