The Osun State Police Command has arrested four suspects over the alleged theft of mobile phones worth about N5 million from a shop in Oja-Oba, Osogbo, the state capital.

The command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this yesterday, saying the arrests followed a complaint by the victim and credible intelligence from members of the public.

The suspects were identified as Afeez Arole, 30; Salami Wahab Idowu, 49; Akanmu Afeez, 37; and Adebisi Taofeek, 47.

According to Ojelabi, the complainant reported on September 1 that his shop at Oja-Oba had been burgled by suspected hoodlums who stole various mobile phones valued at approximately N5 million.

He said the police subsequently commenced efforts to track down the suspects.

Ojelabi said credible information received on September 22 indicated that some suspected members of the group had been sighted around Oja-Oba.

He said intelligence-led surveillance and investigation led police operatives to a suspected hideout, where the four suspects were arrested.

The police said two Itel mobile phones were recovered from the suspects and subsequently identified by the complainant as part of the phones allegedly stolen from his shop.

The suspects have made statements to the police in connection with the alleged offence, while investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and the extent of their alleged involvement. (Daily Trust)
