The new Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Ayodeji Badejo, has unveiled an eight-pillar strategic vision to position the institution to be globally competitive, locally relevant and future ready.

Badejo unveiled the vision while addressing the university’s Committee of Provosts, Deans and Directors at its Senate Chamber, according to a statement.

The statement was issued by Mrs Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, Coordinator, Centre for Information and Public Relations, LASU.

The vice-chancellor listed the pillars to include academic excellence and quality assurance; research, innovation and global visibility; and financial sustainability and resource mobilisation.

“The others include infrastructure and digital transformation; staff welfare and industrial harmony; student welfare, mentorship and employability,” she said.

Badejo said that governance, integrity and institutional visibility, and community engagement and societal impact were the other pillars.

She said that LASU would pursue full accreditation for all programmes while deepening curriculum relevance, innovation and entrepreneurship.

She said that research and innovation would focus on solution-driven research with measurable societal impact alongside stronger international partnerships and improved ranking visibility.

According to her, financial sustainability will be strengthened through diversified income streams, including grants, endowments, consultancy and strategic partnerships.

She said the university would deploy Artificial Intelligence and other digital tools to improve teaching and administration across its campuses.

She announced plans to establish at least one smart classroom in every faculty in the next one year.

She said that her administration would strengthen staff welfare through merit-based development, inclusive dialogue with unions, and sustained institutional capacity building.

She said students’ welfare would receive attention through mentorship, employability initiatives and mental health support.

The vice-chancellor said that her administration would also prioritise integrity, institutional leadership and stronger engagement with host communities and the wider society.

She announced that the administration’s first 100 days would feature university-wide engagements and structured consultations across faculties, schools, centres and directorates.

Badejo called on members of the committee to support the vision through inclusive leadership and an open-door approach.

She said that successful implementation would require collective responsibility and sustained commitment. (NAN)
