The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has hailed the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, for the magnanimity of his government to pay severance allowances of political office holders who served the previous opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government of Otunba Gbenga Daniel and others who served during his first term in office.

In a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the APC in the state, Mr. Sola Lawal, the party also stated that Amosun, in one fell swoop, settled all outstanding deductions of the state workforce as well as payment of gratuity of pensioners.

It described Amosun as a compassionate leader, concerned about the welfare of those who served the state, irrespective of the political party they belong, while noting that the government remains one of a couple of governments in the country without a penny of salary debt.

The party said the significance of the action of the government in disbursing the funds at the Arcade Ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, where cheques were handed over to beneficiaries on Wednesday, is that Amosun has shown commitment to join the Muhammadu Buhari’s Federal Government to draw the country out of recession.

Also according to the APC, the action is a loud testimony to the governor's passion to alleviate sufferings of the people of the state, who ultimately are the overall beneficiaries, since the gesture is expected to impact positively on the economy of the state to the tune of over N13 billion.

“The significance of this cannot be over emphasised, as the Amosun administration has demonstrated commitment to eradicate poverty and improve the economic condition of the people,” the party added.

Describing the government’s decision to utilise the whole N10.6 billion it received as its share of the Paris Club loan refund and also adding N2. 4 billion of the states funds to pay the severance allowance, outstanding deductions from workers salaries and gratuities of pensioners, as worthy of commendation, the party said the leadership style exhibited so far by Amosun is exemplary and worthy of emulation.

“Party also notes that although Amosun’s administration has been adjudged a performer in area of infrastructure development, a new feather has been added to the administration’s cap in the light of its commitment to banish hunger and poverty in the land.

“We therefore urge our people to reciprocate this kindness by supporting the rebuilding mission of the state government towards the fulfilment of the APC’s campaign promised.”

The government had presented cheques to political office holders, who served the government between 2007 and 2011 as well as those who served during the first term of the Amosun government between 2011 and 2015.
