The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has reiterated his resolve to ensure that Anambra people are shielded from all the negative effects of the economic recession being experienced in the country.

He made the statement at his country home, Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area of the state, during an event to celebrate with the family over God’s grace and mercy on the first family.

The governor also used the occasion to meet and fraternise with key stakeholders in the state.

The stakeholders included former Vice-president, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, former Special Adviser to the President on Inter-Party Affairs, Senator Ben Ndi Obi, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke and his wife, Oby; Senator Annie Okonkwo and Senator Emma Anosike.

Others were the National Chairman of APGA, Ozo Victor Oye, former Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Josephine Anenih, among others.

Furthermore in his address, the Governor said: “Ndi Anambra will not experience the present economic recession because of the relevant steps my government has been taking to keep the state’s economy viable.”

According to him, the steps include prompt payment of workers’ salaries, leave allowances, sustenance of seasonal largesse, introduction of economic palliatives, the N20 million per community choose-your-project initiative.

All these he noted were aimed at pumping money into the system as required for any economy to reverse recession.

Obiano revealed that his government is working to bring the state to a level where it can conveniently meet its statutory responsibilities without depending on the Federal Allocation adding that he would continue to avail Anambra people servant leadership with their support.

In his remarks, the former Presidential Adviser on inter party affairs and the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caretaker Leadership, Senator Ben Obi, acknowledged that Governor Obiano has operated a system of governance that extends beyond handshake to stakeholders across party lines.

He noted that his decision to support him was to guarantee the realisation of his laudable visions for the development of the state.

In their individual remarks, a renowned industrialist, Chief Patrick Chidolue, and a construction expert, Chief Benneth Emeka, said Anambra has every reason to celebrate the Yuletide in grand style in view of the visible transformation that it is experiencing.

They maintained that Governor Obiano has proved himself a strong and reasonable leader.

The event which was well attended, spiced with sonorous Christmas carols by a team led by an Associate Professor of Music, Dr. Ngozi Okonkwo, and performances by comedians like Sacramento and MC Parrotmouth.
