The University of Calabar (UniCal) has reconstituted its senior staff disciplinary committee, and charged members to uphold integrity in the discharge of their duties.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Offiong Offiong, said at the inauguration of the committee on Wednesday in Calabar that the university had zero tolerance for indiscipline.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Ekaete Enang, Offiong said that the committee’s recomposition reflected balanced representation and renewed vigour.

He said that the management and unions within the university were adequately represented to promote fairness and confidence.

“The reconstitution is intended to curb indiscipline and any act capable of undermining standards in teaching, learning and administration.

“I urge you to appreciate the sensitive nature of your assignment, and discharge this responsibilities with courage, fairness and a clear conscience,” he said.

Offiong expressed the commitment of the university management to provide the enabling environment for the committee to deliver on its mandate.

The vice chancellor commended members of the immediate past committee for their meritorious service to the university.

In his response, the committee Chairman, Prof. Anthony Okiwelu, thanked the vice chancellor for entrusting them with the responsibility.

Okiwelu, also the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, urged members of the committee to realise that their conduct should reflect the values and reputation of the university.

Other members of the committee are: Prof. Abo Nta; Prof. Daniel Ama-Abasi; Dr Stephen Demort; Dr Alex Oko; Dr John Inaku, Mr Jonas Abuo and Fidelis Akpan. (NAN)
