Residents of Lafagu community in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State have fled their homes following an ethnic clash that reportedly claimed at least 15 lives, including the district head of the community.

The affected residents are said to have relocated to Bagudo town for safety, amid heightened tension in the area.

The violent clash reportedly involved members of the Fulani and Kambari communities.

At least 15 people are said to have been killed in the violence, including the district head of Lafagu, Alhaji Sa’idu Mujeli.

Channels Television gathered that the incident has forced several residents to abandon their homes and relocate to Bagudo town, where they hope to find safety.

A member of the district head’s family said the violence began with attacks on Fulani residents in the area.

He further alleged that some of the attackers moved into Lafagu town, going from house to house in search of Fulani residents.

He alleged that the attackers eventually reached the residence of the district head, who was also a Fulani man.

According to him, the district head was taken out of his residence, which was subsequently set ablaze, before he was taken to another location and shot dead.

The reported killing of the district head has heightened fears among residents, with many now seeking refuge outside the community.

Authorities are expected to provide further details on the incident and measures being taken to restore peace and protect residents.

For now, the situation remains tense, as displaced residents await improved security conditions before considering a return to their homes. (Channels)
