Chairman of Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, Blessing Albert, has warned commercial drivers against wearing caps or other materials associated with rival political parties in the council.

Recall that the state governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, had in October 2025, during the swearing-in of commissioners, directed them to wear the Asiwaju cap to State Executive Council meetings.

Albert gave the warning in a viral video while addressing commercial drivers at Onitsha Park in Ekpoma.

According to him, anyone found wearing political materials not belonging to the All Progressives Congress (APC) risks being removed from the park.

In the video circulating on social media, Albert was seen personally distributing APC-branded caps to the drivers moments after issuing the warning.

He said, “On no account will I see any driver put on a cap or any material that does not belong to APC.”

He stressed that any driver who violated the directive could be ordered to leave the park, regardless of his relationship with the council chairman.

He linked the directive to Governor Monday Okpebholo’s political mobilisation efforts and the governor’s pledge to deliver 2.5 million votes from the state for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

He urged the drivers to support the President and the governor, arguing that the administration’s road projects had improved their businesses. (Daily Trust)
