It was a bad day for Boko Haram terrorists as no fewer than 74 of them were killed by the Nigerian Army in a raid carried out in the north-eastern Nigerian state of Borno.
An AFP report said that the raid took place yesterday and targetted the insurgents in their various hideouts in two villages in Mainok Local Government Area, near the state capital, Maiduguri.
Army spokesman Mohammed Dole said that at least 74 suspected terrorists were killed in the raidm which followed an assault Monday on Boko Haram camps in another part of Borno, which the military said left 37 Islamists dead.
It was, however, a day when Boko Haram also recorded some gains after its fighters stormed the city of Damaturu in neighbouring Yobe State in coordinated raids yesterday, burning at least four police buildings.
The attack was confirmed by a senior police officer who pleaded for anonymity as he is not permitted to speak to the media on the issue.
