Troops of Sector 2 have conducted an offensive operation against terrorist enclaves around Gumki in Arewa Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State, forcing the terrorists to withdraw towards the fringes of the Nigeria-Niger border.

The operation was conducted at about 3:00 a.m. on September 14, 2026, when troops of 1 Battalion moved against suspected terrorist enclaves in the Gumki general area.

Security sources said the troops made contact with the terrorists during the operation, resulting in a firefight.

Unable to withstand the troops’ offensive, the terrorists reportedly withdrew from the area, allowing the troops to exploit the location and recover weapons, ammunition and other items.

The recovered items included one AK-47 rifle with an additional magazine, one PKT machine-gun magazine, 187 rounds of 7.62mm x 54 PKT ammunition and 14 rounds of special ammunition.

Troops also recovered four motorcycles, two mobile phones, combat kits, assorted charms and the sum of N87,000.

The operation is part of sustained efforts by security forces to dismantle terrorist enclaves and deny armed groups freedom of movement along communities bordering Niger Republic.

Troops are continuing offensive and clearance operations in the area while maintaining surveillance around the border axis to prevent the terrorists from regrouping or returning to the affected enclaves. (Zagazola)
