A chemical engineer, Isa Bello, has accused three police personnel of extorting his younger brother to the tune of N155,000 on the Abuja–Kaduna Expressway.

In an X post on Tuesday, Bello revealed that the victim, Abdul Rasheed Isa Bello, is a 400-level Civil Engineering student of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), currently on internship in Abuja.

Bello said his brother was en route Zaria on Tuesday when he was stopped near the Kaduna State border at the toll gate by three police officers.

“Despite identifying himself as a university student, they ordered him out of the vehicle and interrogated him,” Bello said.

He noted that only one of the three policemen had a name tag, which identified him as Mohammed Ibrahim.

“The officers initially demanded ₦200,000. After he pleaded that he is an unemployed intern, they held him until he contacted the family in distress.

“We scrambled to raise and transfer ₦155,000 to the specific account they provided before he was allowed to leave,” he stated.

Bello attached a bank transfer receipt to the post and tagged the Nigeria Police Force and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He added that the family possesses the bank transfer receipt showing the exact recipient details and timestamp.

He called on the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to swiftly investigate the alleged extortion, identify the team deployed to the checkpoint that day, hold officer Mohammed Ibrahim and his colleagues accountable, and facilitate the immediate refund of the ₦155,000

“Kindly look into this matter urgently,” he added.

Neither the FCT Police Command nor the Kaduna State Police Command has responded to the allegation as of press time. (The Sun)
