Nigerian social media personality and actress, Abike Raheem, popularly known as Papaya Ex, has clapped back at some X users who questioned her over an alleged deletion of her YouTube movie, The Spotlight.

Papaya Ex had earlier alleged that her YouTube manager deleted the movie, which she said had garnered 2.7 million views and more than 10,000 comments before it disappeared from her channel.

The allegation triggered reactions on X, with some users questioning whether the incident was genuine and suggesting that the controversy could be part of a publicity strategy for the movie.

One user, Gidi, wrote: “Why is everything always happening to her??? This might be another content to help promote this same movie!”

Responding, Papaya Ex said “how can a painful situation be used to promote a movie that had been deleted and can’t be re-uploaded on the same channel because your channel will be taken down. If bacteria eating brain was in your brain it will starve to deatxh”.

She also criticised another X user, Roseline Chuku, questioned the authenticity of the incident, writing: “So this Papaya Ex story about her manager deleting her movie is actually false?”

She compared Papaya Ex with another social media personality and said she had initially sympathised with her.

Papaya Ex responded: “False how? Ogun fe pa ni. May you be sad forever if you intend to use my matter for clout, you’ll work and all will crumble right in your face. Amin, only if I am lying. Amin.”

A third user, Oriaku Worldwide, suggested that Papaya Ex might have already been paid for the movie’s views and could be planning to re-upload it to generate additional revenue.

The user wrote that the strategy would involve uploading the film again and asking viewers to watch it, describing the alleged plan as “dubious but smart work”.

Papaya Ex responded by wishing the user “everlasting sadness” and accusing the person of seeking clout from her situation. The exchange was also visible on Papaya Ex’s X account.

Papaya Ex had earlier broken down in an emotional video over the disappearance of The Spotlight, saying she had fasted for 30 days while working on the project.

The film, released on Aug. 14, features Papaya Ex alongside Michael Dappa and Ada Uli and follows Dayo, a struggling music artiste seeking to make a breakthrough in the music industry.

The exchanges have continued to generate reactions on social media, with some users defending Papaya Ex while others questioned the circumstances surrounding the alleged deletion. (NAN)
