China’s Guangxi region has recorded 159 deaths, while 10 people remain missing following severe flooding caused by prolonged heavy rainfall in early July, state-run Xinhua news agency reported on Friday.
The typhoon brought rare and prolonged heavy rainfall to the region, triggering widespread flooding and breaches at several reservoirs, according to local authorities cited by Xinhua.
At least 107 people died following breaches at reservoirs, while more than 1.6 million people were affected by disasters across the two hardest-hit cities.
More than 320,000 residents were relocated or evacuated as flooding disrupted communities and damaged infrastructure across the region.
Authorities said Guangxi has entered a post-disaster recovery and reconstruction phase, with efforts focused on repairing damaged infrastructure and supporting affected communities.
China was hit by three typhoons, Maysak, Bavi and Noul, in July, causing widespread disruption and damage across several areas.
Across China, natural disasters during the month left 318 people dead or missing and caused direct economic losses of 57.15 billion yuan ($8.5 billion), according to the Ministry of Emergency Management.
