Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo has accused staff at the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca, Morocco, of stealing cash from the rooms of several Nigerian players ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Okoronkwo, who plays for Canadian Northern Super League side AFC Toronto, made the allegation in a series of posts on Snapchat on Saturday, claiming that hotel cleaning staff entered the players’ rooms while they were away and took money from their wallets.

The 29-year-old said she lost $700, adding that the total amount allegedly stolen from the affected players was about $1,000.

She also identified other teammates who were reportedly affected, including defender Osinachi Ohale, who allegedly lost $100, midfielder Joy Omewa ($120), captain Rasheedat Ajibade ($200), and midfielder Halimatu Ayinde ($100).

“This hotel Marriot in Casablanca just stole about a lot of peoples’ money from their wallet!” Okoronkwo wrote.

“They stole a couple of dollars from my teammate. The cleaning people stole the money. So they waited while we weren’t in the room to clean and steal the money.”

Okoronkwo further alleged that the players were dissatisfied with the response from hotel management after reporting the incident.

“We started talking to them and they don’t have answers. They also started being disrespectful,” she said.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) nor the Marriott Hotel Casablanca had issued an official statement addressing the allegations.

The Super Falcons, Africa’s most successful women’s national team with a record 10 WAFCON titles, will begin the defence of their crown against Malawi on July 28 at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat. (The Nation)
