Igwe Chidubem Iweka posed for a photograph with FRSC personnel who paid him a visit at his palace
By CHIEDU UCHE OKOYE
Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka lll), the traditional ruler of Obosi in Anambra State, has thrown his weight behind the Federal Road Safety Corps’ (FRSC) exercise titled ‘load right, save lives’.
Eze Iweka, who is the chairman of the Anambra state traditional rulers’ council, expressed his willingness to participate in the sensitization programme when personnel of FRSC paid him a visit at his palace on July 21.
“ ‘Load right, Save lives’ is a noble and laudable initiative. It is a very good programme. And I am happy to be involved in it.
“When I see FRSC workers doing anything wrong, I do tell them to stop doing the thing.
“Again, I would like transport operators to know that no load is worth a human life. So they should not load above capacity. Human life is worth more than profit,” Iweka said.
He, also, suggested that FRSC should be repositioned and revamped to restore it to its former prestigious and glorious state.
“FRSC officers on the road should be deprogrammed and counselled. It is a harsh thing to say. But there should be revamping and reformation of FRSC to bring back its past prestige and glory,” Iweka said.
Earlier, a top FRSC officer in Onitsha, Route Commander Amaka Nwokocha, had solicited the help of Igwe Iweka regarding the dissemination of the messages that undergird the FRSC’S “Load Right, Save Lives” exercise.
“We are appealing to you, Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka III), a foremost first class traditional ruler, to record a video about our “Load Right, Save Lives” programe.
“We are, also, urging you to use your good offices to tell them to stop overloading.
“And we beg you to admonish them to obey the rules about approved loading capacity.
“They should be taught that loading right will help to save lives when accidents occur,” Nwokocha said.
The Federal Road Safety Corps “Load Right, Save Lives initiative is geared towards calling the attention of transport operators to the calamitous consequences that would result from their not abiding by the rules on overloading of their vehicles.
