The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, AIG Ikioye Orutugu, was on Tuesday, decorated with his new rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Also decorated with AIG rank was the immediate past Commissioner of Police, AIG Nnaghe Obono Itam.

A statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP, Tochukwu Ikenga who celebrated the decoration of its substantive Commissioner of Police, AIG Ikioye Orutugu, following his promotion to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police.

He said the duo were decorated alongside other senior police officers at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.

The statement read in part, “The simultaneous elevation of both the serving and immediate past Commissioners of Police of the Anambra State Command is a remarkable milestone that reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s recognition of exceptional leadership, professional excellence, dedication to duty, and unwavering commitment to public service.

“During their respective tenures in Anambra State, both senior officers demonstrated exemplary leadership, strategic vision, and outstanding professionalism in advancing operational policing, strengthening collaboration with critical stakeholders, enhancing intelligence-driven security operations, improving public confidence in the Police, and promoting peace and security across the state.

“Their promotions are a fitting recognition of their invaluable contributions to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation at large.

“The achievements recorded under their leadership have continued to reinforce the Police Force’s commitment to effective policing, community engagement, and the protection of lives and property.

“Their elevation further underscores the importance of merit, dedication, and exemplary service within the Nigeria Police Force.”

The state Police Command further expressed immense pride in the significant achievement, describing it as an honour not only for the distinguished officers but also for the Command, whose commitment to excellence, professionalism, accountability, and effective service delivery continues to receive national recognition.

He added: “The officers and men of the Command heartily congratulate both Assistant Inspectors General of Police on their well-deserved promotions.”

While expressing confidence that their wealth of experience, visionary leadership, and steadfast commitment to the ideals and core values of the Nigeria Police Force would continue to have a significant impact in their new responsibilities, the Command wished AIG Ikioye Orutugu and AIG Nnaghe Obono Itam continued success, excellent health, and even greater accomplishments as they continue to serve the Nigeria Police Force and the nation with honour, integrity, professionalism, and distinction.
