The Federal Government has dismissed reports claiming that registration has begun for a ₦50,000 National Support Allowance, describing the information as false and warning Nigerians against falling victim to online fraudsters.
In a public notice shared on its official X account on Sunday, the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction stated that it had not launched any registration exercise for the alleged programme.
“The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has NOT commenced registration for any ₦50,000 National Support Allowance,” the ministry said.
The ministry urged members of the public to ignore messages, websites and application links promoting the purported scheme, stressing that they were designed to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.
“Disregard fraudulent messages, links and websites claiming otherwise. Verify any info only through official govt channels,” it added.
The clarification follows the circulation of a fake flyer on social media claiming that the allowance programme had been Introduced under the directive of President Bola Tinubu. The advert, published in both English and Hausa, directed applicants to a suspicious website to submit their details.
The ministry reiterated the need for Nigerians to rely only on verified government communication channels for information on social intervention programmes, warning that similar scams have previously targeted beneficiaries of initiatives such as N-Power. (The Sun)
