Anita Baki
A colleague of late Mary Habila, Anita Baki, has described her death as a devastating loss, clarifying that the deceased was a nurse and not a physiotherapist, contrary to reports circulating on social media.
Speaking in a video, Baki, who identified herself as a physiotherapist and a close colleague of the deceased, said she and Habila had worked together for years under the Minister of Works and lived in the same staff quarters.
“My name is Anita Baki, I am the colleague of Late Mary Habila.”
Expressing grief over Habila’s passing, Baki said the news came as a shock and that she was too distraught to speak extensively about the incident.
“Her death is so unfortunate and sudden and so surprising that it is going viral and everywhere. I don’t have much to say because I am not in a good state of mind to speak more about her death. It’s a great loss to me, being a close person to her.”
Baki also dismissed claims that they had recently been brought from northern Nigeria to work in the minister’s office, saying they had both served there for several years.
“We were not transported from the north. I have been working with her for a very long time now. We have been working under the minister.”
She further corrected reports misidentifying Habila’s profession, stressing that she not the deceased is the physiotherapist.
“She is a nurse while I am the physiotherapist. The news has been spreading around that she is a physiotherapist. I am the physiotherapist here and not her.”
According to Baki, both women had worked under the Minister of Works for more than three years, while Habila was also attached to David Umahi Federal University, Uburu.
She added that they lived together with other members of staff in the official staff quarters.
“We stays together and other staff members in the quarters.” (AriseNews TV)
