Ex-Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Danladi Umar
Justice Peter Kekemeke of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, has granted bail to a former Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Danladi Umar, who is facing trial on four counts of alleged abuse of office and corruption.
Justice Kekemeke admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of ₦100million with one surety who must possess a certificate of occupancy in Abuja.
The defendant, will, meanwhile, be returned to Kuje Custodial Centre until he meets the bail terms.
In a short ruling, Justice Kekemeke said that the prosecution had not proven that the defendant would interfere with witnesses, having claimed they were staff of the CCT while the defendant was chairman.
Justice Kekemeke had last week ordered the remand of the former Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal at the Kuje Custodial Centre pending the hearing of his bail application.
Umar was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a four-count charge of conferring undue advantage on himself while serving as the chairman of the CCT.

But he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecuting counsel Christopher Mshelia had prayed the court for a day for trial and that the defendant be remanded at the correctional centre.
Counsel to Umar has also informed the court of the bail application filed on behalf of his client and urged the court to take the application. (Channels News)
