Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting widows, empowering women and creating economic opportunities for youths.

Speaking on Sunday at a Widows’ Remembrance Service at COCIN Bukuru, Gyel, Mutfwang called for church-led unity as the foundation for peace in Plateau State.

He said his administration had revived the Widowhood Centre in Mangu, where over 100 widows graduated from vocational training last year, with 500 more receiving livelihood skills. He said the state had also paid counterpart funding for a World Bank programme to train 90,000 women across Plateau.

Mutfwang said caring for widows should not rest solely on government and the church, urging families to take primary responsibility. He condemned the dispossession of widows of their late husbands’ property, and announced a ₦10 million donation to support widows in the church.

The governor invited 50 youths with viable business plans to submit proposals through the Secretary to the State Government for assessment.

He urged residents to share credible security information with agencies to help keep the state safe. (The Nation)
