The highly anticipated inauguration and national swearing-in ceremony of the incoming National Executive Council of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has been scheduled to hold on Tuesday, 14 July 2026, in Abuja.
According to a statement made available to journalists by the students’ body on Saturday, formal accreditation of student delegates, executive members and invited dignitaries will commence strictly at 9:00 a.m. to ensure a highly coordinated, dignified and secure ceremony befitting the national milestone. The accreditation will lead directly into the main event, which is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
According to NANS, the transition represents the beginning of a renewed and progressive era focused on reshaping the framework of student representation and fostering a stable and prosperous academic environment across tertiary institutions in the country.
The statement reads: “This administrative transition introduces an intentional shift towards constructive diplomacy, intellectual rigour and proactive engagement with state actors. The incoming Executive Council assumes office with a clear policy roadmap aimed at addressing the fundamental issues confronting the Nigerian education sector, including administrative bottlenecks, campus security concerns and the protection of student welfare.
“Moving away from archaic methods of confrontational activism, the new leadership is firmly committed to promoting a culture of intellectual resourcefulness, where systematic negotiations, policy alternatives and strategic partnerships with the Federal Government, institutional heads and other education stakeholders will form the bedrock of student advocacy.
“The incoming administration is fully prepared to lead with integrity, courage and a structured sense of purpose to ensure that the voice of the Nigerian student remains a powerful catalyst for national development.
“In light of the contemporary realities within the higher education landscape, this administration recognises its critical role in monitoring and strengthening student-centred public policies. The Executive Council will actively focus on improving access to federal initiatives, such as the student loan scheme, ensuring the transparent allocation of educational funds and advocating widespread infrastructure development across campuses.” (Nigerian Tribune)
