The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has deployed 10 new compactor trucks to strengthen waste evacuation operations across Lagos State.
Speaking at the deployment of the trucks, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Lo’teries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA) for donating the vehicles, describing the gesture as a demonstration of the Lagos State Government’s commitment to strengthening public service delivery through strategic inter-agency collaboration.
He noted that the additional compactors would significantly boost the Authority’s fleet, enhance operational efficiency and improve service delivery.
He said: "This generous donation reinforces our capacity to deliver more efficient and reliable waste management services to Lagosians. As our population continues to grow, investments in critical operational assets such as these are essential to improving service delivery and sustaining a cleaner, healthier and more liveable city.”
He emphasised that the donation underscored the importance of collaboration among government institutions in addressing environmental challenges as sustainable waste management required continuous investment in modern equipment, innovation and strategic partnerships.
“Environmental sustainability is a shared responsibility. We commend the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority for this timely intervention and for supporting our ongoing efforts to strengthen waste management operations. Together, we are building a cleaner, healthier and more resilient Lagos”, he added.
The LAWMA boss disclosed that the new compactors had been strategically deployed to critical operational corridors to complement the Authority's existing fleet and improve waste collection efficiency across the State.
He assured residents that LAWMA would continue to optimise available resources, strengthen waste evacuation operations, intensify enforcement drive, and deepen community engagement in pursuit of a cleaner and sustainable Lagos.
Dr. Gbadegesin also encouraged other public institutions and corporate organisations to partner with LAWMA in advancing environmental sustainability through strategic investments, capable of enhancing waste management infrastructure and service delivery.
He reaffirmed LAWMA's commitment to deploying modern equipment, embracing innovation, and strengthening partnerships to meet the waste management needs of Africa’s fastest-growing megacity.
