The towns visited by the governor’s wife include; Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Ogbunike, Nteje, Awkuzu and Umunya in Oyi Local Government Area.
Addressing the mammoth crowd that gathered at the various rallies, which included community leaders, women groups and youths, Mrs. Obiano explained that the governor’s resolve to take the state to the highest height is evident in the ongoing projects across the state despite the prevailing economic recession in Nigeria which has stalled development strides in some states.
“We all are witnesses to the security of lives and property we enjoy in Anambra State and the gradual transformation of our state capital Awka; the developmental strides in our towns and villages especially the N20 million community project.
“I am not saying this because I am involved but because it is true, often times I wish there is no recession then we would have seen much more from our visionary governor but I am convinced that God will help him to achieve his lofty plans for our people. That is why I ask that you continue to pray for him,” she stated.
She said that the tour is essential in order to touch base and feel the pulse of the people especially the women and also get feedback to the governor.
She urged the women to take advantage of the stimulus package the government offered through abolishing levies on petty trades in all markets across the state.
While highlighting the complimentary role she plays through her NGO, Caring Family Empowerment Initiative (CAFÉ) which according to her supports the welfare programmes of the Obiano administration in promoting strong and healthy families through assisting the vulnerable groups in the state, Mrs. Obiano added that through the lofty programmes, people will be opportune to feel the impact of government and eventually contribute to the socio-economic development of the state.
Earlier in their separate addresses, the speakers praised the commitment of governor Obiano to total development of Anambra State and endorsed him for a second term in office.
Speaking on behalf of Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Union Women Wing, Dr. Mrs. Grace Okanne, expressed delight at the visit by the governor’s wife, saying that in less than three years in office, the governor has recorded numerous achievements in the area of security, agriculture, investments and regular payment of worker’s salary.
She however, appealed to the government to construct a road linking Oze town to the Express Road.
On her part, the President General Ogbunike Union, Women Wing, Lady Bibian Onwuka, commended the governor’s wife who also hails from Ogbunike and governor Obiano for doing a good job.
She called for the construction of Oye Olisa road which has been hugely damaged by flood.
Also speaking, the Woman Leader, Umunya Development Union, Mrs. Angelina Okafor, said that Mrs. Obiano and her husband the governor are God-sent to Anambra State.
She said, “While the governor is busy building many projects like the Civic Centre in the town, the wife, Osodieme, is making positive impact in the lives of widows and the less privileged with some of the beneficiaries coming from our town.”
The Woman leader urged the Obiano government to construct more roads and also check the ugly erosion menace in the area with a view to proffering solution to it.
The same theme was echoed by the Women Leaders at the rallies in Nteje, and Awkuzu communities.
Officers of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) were on hand to sensitise members of each community on the need for safe driving and safety on the roads and the avoidance of drugs and substance abuse during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
