Borno South Senator, Ali Ndume, has appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts towards securing the release of residents of his constituency who remain in captivity following the rescue of abducted pupils and teachers from Oyo State.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, the lawmaker urged the military to shift attention to Borno South, where dozens of people are still being held by kidnappers and insurgents.

The appeal comes on Friday after schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oyo State regained their freedom after spending more than 50 days in captivity.

The victims were kidnapped on May 15, 2026. One of the teachers was later killed by the abductors, raising concerns over the safety of the remaining hostages before their eventual rescue.

Reacting to the development, Ndume said, “I want to use this opportunity to appeal to the military to shift their attention now to my senatorial district and help us get these people back.

“Our people, our children in my senatorial district are under captivity, 42 of them. We have over 30 people from Lassa who were captured recently.

“We still have over 50 people in another location who remain in captivity. Some of the over 400 abducted persons were released, but many others are still being held by their kidnappers.” (Saturday PUNCH)
