Cholera patients in a hospital
The cholera outbreak in Cross Kauwa, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, has worsened, with the number of confirmed cases rising to 108 and nine deaths recorded as health authorities intensify efforts to contain the disease.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that as of about 6:30 p.m. on July 6, the outbreak had affected more than a hundred residents of the community.
The sources said the affected persons were receiving treatment at the Cross Kauwa Primary Health Care Centre, while the medical team of the 19 Brigade Nigerian Army had been deployed to the area to establish quarantine measures and provide immediate medical support to victims.
According to the sources, officials from the Kukawa Local Government Authority and the Borno State Ministry of Health also visited the community to assess the situation and deliver essential medical supplies to strengthen the response.
Medical personnel from the 19 Brigade are continuing to monitor the outbreak in collaboration with state health authorities to prevent further spread of the disease.
Health officials have urged residents to maintain proper hygiene, ensure access to safe drinking water and promptly report suspected cases to health facilities as efforts continue to contain the outbreak. (Zagazola)
