The management and board of the African Centre for Youth Development and Employment (ACYDE) has selected Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State as the winner of its 2013 African Youth Man of the Year Award.
The award is designed by ACYDE in recognition and celebration of personalities who contribute significantly to youth development in Africa.
In a press release in Abuja at the weekend, Chairperson of the 2013 Award Steering Committee, Ms. Mathapelo Mushwene, said: “H.E. Akpabio’s award is based on his outstanding contributions in areas of youth education, job creation, and encouragement of young people in governance and decision making. He will take over from H.E. President Kikwete of Tanzania, who is the winner of the 2012 edition.”
The statement noted that the award presentation ceremony will take place in Abuja during the opening session of the African Youth Leader conference which is commemorated in honour of the 8th African youth on November 1, 2013.The chairperson on behalf of the management of ACYDE and the award steering committee, congratulated Gov. Akpabio on this well-deserved honour.
