The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) has come under heavy criticism over its recognition of Plateau State Governor David Jang as chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF).
A veteran journalist and former National Vice President, North-East of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Abdulkareem Albashir, descended heavily on the national broadcaster yesterday at the public presentation of Liberty FM Radio and symposium on “The Future of the Broadcast Industry in Northern Nigeria: A Post-Centenary Outlook”.
Albashir said: “NTA network service is a big disgrace to journalism and it is high time we start criticizing ourselves and correct such unethical attitude by media organisation.
“Protocol news rather than news according to priority and news value by NTA is another major concern. NTA gives personality priority no matter the importance of other news items. This is wrong!” he said.
On Jang, the veteran journalist accused NTA of recognising him as the chairman of NGF despite the result of the election in favour of Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State and current developments. He added that “NTA really need to meet up top its professional responsibility.”
