RCCG GO, PST Adeboye
By BONIFACE AKARAH
The Save Nigeria Group (SNG) USA has dismissed claims that the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adejare Adeboye, gave President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a clean bill of health on security during a recent address in the United States.
The group, In a statement signed by its President, Stephen Osemwegie, alleged that supporters of the President and the All Progressives Congress had selectively circulated only a portion of Adeboye’s speech in which he reportedly said Tinubu “has done his bit” to tackle insecurity.
According to the organisation, presenting only that excerpt distorted the overall message delivered by the cleric.
“We wish to inform the general public that presenting only this isolated excerpt does not reflect the broader context of Pastor Adeboye’s message,” the group said.
SNG USA maintained that the central theme of Adeboye’s address was his concern over Nigeria’s worsening insecurity and his appeal for collective efforts to confront the crisis.
“In our view, the central theme of his address was his deep concern over the persistent insecurity in Nigeria and his urgent appeal for all stakeholders—including government, civil society, faith-based organisations, human rights advocates and diaspora groups such as Save Nigeria Group USA—to work together in confronting the crisis,” the statement added.
The group further claimed that Adeboye stressed the need for international collaboration in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges and expressed support for the involvement of the administration of Donald Trump and other global partners in preventing what he warned could become a humanitarian crisis across Sub-Saharan Africa.
“Pastor Adeboye also emphasised the importance of international cooperation and expressed support for the involvement of the administration of President Donald Trump and other global partners in helping Nigeria avert what he warned could develop into a severe humanitarian crisis across Sub-Saharan Africa,” it stated.
To provide what it described as the full context of the cleric’s remarks, the organisation announced that it had made available the complete 37-minute, 46-second address, urging Nigerians to watch the speech in its entirety rather than rely on isolated quotations.
“We have decided to make available the full 37-minute and 46-second address of Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye so that members of the public can listen to his remarks in their entirety rather than rely on selective quotations taken out of context,” the statement said.
SNG USA described itself as a non-partisan, non-political and non-profit organisation committed to promoting a peaceful, democratic and prosperous Nigeria through humanitarian and civic engagement. It also encouraged members of the public to watch the full address and make their own assessment of the cleric’s remarks.
