Nine prison inmates serving various jail terms in Kaduna, North-West Nigeia, have breathed the air of feedom afte being pardoned by Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero as part of activities to commemorate Nigeria’s 53rd Independence Anniversary.
In a letter to the Solicitor-General of Kaduna State dated September 26, 2013, Governor Yero approved the release of the nine convicts as recommended by the Advisory Council in exercise of his powers under Section 212 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (As amended).
The prisoners affected by the Governor’s prerogative of mercy are in four categories A-D, with three having only six months left to serve. Two others are pardoned on age grounds, due to ill health that is likely to terminate in death while the remaining three are special cases.
A statement signed by Ahmed Maiyaki, Director General, Media & Publicity to Governor Yero, identified those pardoned as Ubale Umar, Sule Jibrin, Yahaya Mohammed, Ademola Apamisile, Shittu Oladele, Kolawole Ilesami, Suleiman A. Arogundade, Ali Sale and Daniel Vincent.
