Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has reportedly applied for the release of his international passport, currently being held by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as part of ongoing investigations involving him.
The request is understood to be in line with administrative conditions tied to his engagement with the anti-graft agency, which has restricted his foreign travel pending the conclusion of inquiries.
Sources familiar with the development say the application is aimed at recovering his travel documents, a step that may allow him to undertake international engagements or seek temporary travel clearance for personal or official purposes. It is, however, unclear whether the EFCC has taken action on the request or the conditions that may be attached to any approval.
Okowa, who served as Governor of Delta State and was the vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 general election, has recently remained under public scrutiny following questions surrounding his tenure in office.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has not publicly disclosed full details of its ongoing investigation.
As of filing this report, neither Okowa nor the EFCC has issued an official statement confirming the status of the passport request or any decision reached on the matter. (Guardian)
