Security experts and stakeholders have called for urgent reforms to strengthen Nigeria’s border security architecture against emerging threats.

This was reiterated at a seminar, themed “Strengthening Nigeria’s Border Security Architecture for National Security,” was organised by the Alumni Association of the National Defence College (AANDEC) in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the National Defence College (NDC).

In a statement by the National Boundary Commission (NBC) on sunday said it participated in the high-level security engagement, with the Director-General, Surveyor Adamu A. Adaji, represented by the Commission’s Head of Cross-Border Unit, Dr. Farouk Tarfa.

The gathering brought together senior military officers, security agencies, intelligence officials and other stakeholders to assess Nigeria’s border challenges, rising security threats and strategies for effective border management.

Participants stressed that secure and properly managed borders remain vital to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty, strengthening regional stability and supporting economic growth.

The seminar recommended the speedy delimitation and demarcation of Nigeria’s international boundaries, improved cooperation with border communities, stronger cross-border collaboration and enhanced coordination among security and law enforcement agencies.

Stakeholders noted that a coordinated border security framework is critical to addressing transnational crimes and safeguarding the nation’s security interests. (The Guardian)
